📋 Simple Rules
Objective: Score tries by grounding the ball over the opponent's try line
Basic Play:
- Teams of 4 players each
- Start with a tap at center field
- Move the ball forward by running and passing (backwards only)
- Defender removes tag to stop ball carrier
- Tagged player stops, places ball down, and retrieves their tag
- Play resumes with a pass within 3 seconds
- 6 tags allowed before possession changes to other team
Scoring:
- Try = 1 point (ground ball over try line)
- After scoring, restart with a tap from center
Key Rules:
- No kicking at any time
- No contact or blocking
- Ball must be passed backwards
- Tag must be clearly visible and attached properly
- Instant turnovers: Dropped ball, forward pass, or blocking = immediate possession change
- Out of bounds = turnover to other team
🎽 Kit Requirements
Essential:
- Tag belts with 2 tags per player (Velcro attachment)
- Standard rugby ball (size 4 for youth, size 5 for adults)
- Cones or markers for field boundaries and try lines
- Team jerseys or colored bibs
Field Setup:
- Quarter rugby field = approximately 35m x 22m per game
- Try zones at each end (5m deep)
- Clear boundary markings
- 4 fields can fit on one standard rugby pitch (100m x 70m)
Optional:
- Scoreboard or scoring app
- First aid kit
- Whistles for referees
- Substitution bibs
